Main Areas of Operation

  • KUTEI BASIN, KALIMANTAN A detailed chronostratigraphic framework, prepared for Unocal/Chevron, recently published in IPA Proceedings and based on the studies of over 100 well sections. The framework utilises a sequence biostratigraphic approach, with 28 divisions from the Early Pleistocene to Middle Miocene, with the framework extending to the Early Eocene. Reservoir scale studies have been undertaken on all prospective reservoir sections found on the slope and basin floor

  • TARAKAN BASIN, KALIMANTAN The Kutei Basin scheme has been extended to Tarakan Basin

  • WEST NATUNA BASIN A high resolution chronostratigraphic framework for West Natuna was published in IPA Proceedings in 2003. This scheme uses a sequence biostratigraphic approach, differentiating highstand/tst from lowstand packages using climatostratigraphy. The framework is based on three regional studies, for Lasmo (1993), Premier (1998) and ConocoPhillips (2003)

  • MALAY BASIN , A high resolution palynological zonation was published in 1996 (Geol Soc Malaysia), and prepared for PRSS Petronas, based on the study of 15 wells. This study has recently been followed up with a detailed sequence biostratigraphic study based on a climatostratigraphic approach, and integrated with seismic stratigraphy (2006).

  • NORTHERN END MALAY BASIN, VIETNAM.The West Natuna and Malay Basin schemes have been extended into Vietnamese acreage through working with Unocal (2005/2006).

  • MINAS FIELD, CENTRAL SUMATRA. An integrated sequence biostratigraphic and seismic evaluation of part of Minas reservoir interval, completed 2005.

  • NIGER DELTA A detailed high-resolution palynological zonation, using a climatostratigraphic approach, covering 30 Ma and over 50 zones and subzones, has been developed for the Niger Delta. This was prepared for Chevron in 1998, with the framework published in Morley, R.J., 2000, Origin and Evolution of Tropical Rain Forest (John Wiley)

  • At different times, other studies have been undertaken from Bangladesh,Peru, Sumatra, Lombok, India and Pakistan.

  • ACADEMIC STUDIES

  • JAVA MAN Detiled palaeoenvironmental studies have been undertaken at the Perning Pithecanthropus erectus site near Mojokerto. This work has been undertaken in association with ITB Bandung and University of Austin, Texas..

  • RAIN FOREST EVOLUTION STUDIES Bob Morley tries to bring evolutionary, palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimatic data that relates to Tropical Rain Forests which has been generated for the Petroleum Industry into the public domain through publication in evolutionary and ecological journals. Much information on rain forest evolution has been generated only from petroleum industry work. This work is synthesised in his book Origin and Evolution of Tropical Rain Forests, published by John Wiley in 2000. Tropical rain forests are the worlds most diverse ecosystem, with the least information available regarding their evolutionmary history.

  • SEQUENCE BIOSTRATIGRAPHY COURSE With respect to the application of biostratigraphy in sequence stratigraphy, a 2-4 day day course is available, aimed both at geologists and biostratigraphers. This places emphasis on palynology, foraminifera and nannofossils as sequence stratigraphic tools.
